Spanish Gourmet Food & Wine Menu
11th August 2009
£35.00 including wines
Many Britons love to visit Spain as a holiday destination and Spain is also home to some of the most exciting modern gourmet cuisine (not to mention some of the tastiest wines) in the world. Tonight we will take a culinary journey with a menu of Spanish gournet favourites prepared by Chef Creswick, accompanied by some well-chosen Spanish wines supplied by Berkman Wine Sellers.
Seating at 7:30 p.m.
Appetisers
Salted, Roasted Almonds
Start your evening with roasted almonds – one of the simplest and classic flavours of Spain. Spain is the world’s second leading producer of almonds, growing 13% of the world’s annual almond supply.
Wine Pairing:
La Guita Manzanilla
A distinguished, fresh-tasting Spanish sherry, offering floral aromas and hints of almond.
To Start
Serrano Ham with Fresh Pineapple.
A traditional Spanish delicacy, Jamón Serrano (“mountain ham” in Spanish) is a dry-cured ham served in thin slices. The ham is cured for months to achieve its distinctive flavour and texture.
Wine Pairing:
Red tempranillo
Tempranillo means “early ripener” in Spanish, and this noble variety makes stylish, memorable wines with flavours of strawberry and sour cherry.
Fish Course
Paella Valenciana:
One of Spain’s signature national dishes, Paella is a feast for the senses – colorful, flavourful, loaded with a variety of fresh seafood and quality meats, seasoned with precious saffron spice. Tonihgt's Paella includes rice with prawns, clams, mussels, squid, chicken and chorizo (Spanish sausage) blended with saffron.
Wine Pairing:
Old Vine Garnacha , Bodega Ignacio Marin, Carinena
A rich, savory wine – the grapes come from “old vines,” as the name states, which results a lower yield per vine and a deeper, more complex flavour to the wine.
Main Course
Somerset Organic Chicken sautéed in a Garlic Sauce.
Chicken with garlice (Pollo con Ajo) is a popular main dish in Spain. We've used an organic, locally-prodcued bird for an unbeatable combination: Somerset chicken, Spanish flavour.
Wine Pairing:
Azumbre Verdejo Vendmia Seleccionada, Rueda
A dry wine, intensely aromatic, crisp and refreshing with a nutty aftertaste.
Dessert
Crema Catalana
Crema Catalana (Catalan Cream) is the Spanish equivalent of the French dessert, crème brulee. Smooth, sweet custard cream topped with caramelized sugar – break through the crunchy top layer with your spoon to reach the sugary goodness below.
Wine Pairing:
Gran Fuedo Moscatel,Chivite, Navarra.
Sweet, well-balanced wine with flavours of lemon confit, peaches, and nectarines.
Coffee and chocolate mints
Inspiring food, elegant wines, pleasant company and a wine expert to share some of the inner secrets of each bottle. What a superb way to spend an evening.
